Dr. Mielcarek is an expert in various types of surgeries.

Total Hip Arthroplasty

Dr. Mielcarek is an expert in various types of surgeries. Replacing the worn joint with a total prosthesis to relieve pain caused by coxarthrosis and restore normal mobility.

Total Knee Prosthesis

Replace the worn parts of the joint with a prosthesis to relieve the pain of gonarthrosis and restore mobility.

Hallux Valgus

It is a deformation of the big toe, often called a "bunion," which can cause a painful bump on the side of the foot. If left untreated, this deformation can lead to other pain and affect the other toes.

Hallux Rigidus

Hallux rigidus is a form of osteoarthritis affecting the big toe joint, causing stiffness and pain, even at rest. Over time, bony growths (osteophytes) may develop, making wearing shoes painful.

Hallux Rigidus

Hallux rigidus is the name given to primary osteoarthritis of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, as well as between the head of the first metatarsal and its sesamoids.

Hallux Vallux

The most common deformity is HALLUX VALGUS (commonly called the "bunion"). It affects the first ray of the foot, where the phalanges are deviated outward and the first metatarsal (the long bone on the inner edge of the foot) is deviated inward.

Hip

Hip wear is often associated with a reduction in joint range of motion (stiffness) and, most importantly, pain.

Knee

Knee surgery involves replacing the worn parts of the joint with a prosthesis to relieve the pain of gonarthrosis and restore mobility.

Total Hip Arthroplasty

Hip wear is often associated with a reduction in joint range of motion (stiffness) and, most importantly, pain. Clinically, this manifests as limping, difficulty putting on shoes, and performing personal hygiene.

Total Knee Prosthesis

Your knee has a deformity or wear (called gonarthrosis) that requires replacement. Generally, the knee is replaced entirely, meaning both the femoral and tibial parts.

Hallux Valgus

When the deformation of the big toe gradually worsens, it is referred to as HALLUX VALGUS.
This deformation is often associated with a bony protrusion (called a "bunion") on the inner side of the foot. The deviation can cause pain, discomfort when wearing shoes, and, over time, a deterioration in quality of life.

Hallux Rigidus

When osteoarthritis occurs in the first metatarsophalangeal joint, it is called HALLUX RIGIDUS. This condition involves bony growths around the affected joint, causing an increase in joint volume and pain due to friction when wearing shoes.

Dr. Paul Mielcarek's Career Path

After studying medicine at the Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris VI, I did my internship at the Lille University Hospital for 5 years. During this period, I had the opportunity to do a 6-month internship in Nouméa, New Caledonia, and a 6-month internship at Strasbourg University Hospital. It was this latter stay that enabled me to join the department of my mentor, Professor Jean-François Kempf, as Head of Clinic. He greatly contributed to my integration in our beautiful Alsace, which I've loved so much for over 20 years now. With him, I learned shoulder surgery, particularly arthroscopic surgery, as well as lower limb surgery. Little by little, my professional and intellectual affinities and opportunities led me to develop foot surgery and, in particular, to deepen my knowledge of non-fixed percutaneous osteotomy techniques, which I still practise today.
My Career in Private Surgery

My transition to private surgery, first at Sainte Odile Clinic and then at Rhéna Clinic, allowed me to spread my wings under the guidance of my associates Drs. Pierre Henky (now retired), Daniel Nérisson, Eric Rinn, and Gauthier Dillmann.

My Specialization in Lower Limb Surgery

Over time, I gradually moved away from shoulder surgery to focus exclusively on lower limb surgery. Today, I am highly specialized in foot surgery, but I maintain an active interest in hip and knee prosthetic surgery, as well as arthroscopic surgery, including ligament surgery of the knee and ankle.

My Multidisciplinary Approach

I chose not to confine myself to a single joint-focused practice in order to continue growing intellectually and maintain expertise in both open and minimally invasive surgery. This enables me to handle the many unexpected challenges faced by a surgeon dedicated to treating patients with commitment, precision, and empathy.
